 About RANGAMATI

Rangamati district is a district of natural beauties & cultural heritage. It is located at 22º 00' 27"& 23º 00' 44" N and 91º 00' 56" & 92º 00' 33" E. It is surrounded by Tripura of India at north, Bandarban at south, Mizoram of India at east and Khagrachari & Chittagong at west. It consists of ten Upazilas, two Pourashavas and Forty Nine Unions. Rangamati District has a long history and heritage of very rich culture of tribal & Bengali people. There are Chakma, Murong, Pankho, Marma, Chak, Tripura, Lucai, Kheang, Tanchanga, Khumi known as tribal people besides Bengali. The Rangamati Pourahsava was (municipality) established in 1972 while the Baghaicahri Pourashava was established in 2004. The people living in this district among tribals are mostly buddhisht, some are hindus and christian while most of the people are muslims among non- tribal . Due to its topography there is no richshaw in this town and it is the biggest district in Bangladesh from area point of view. It is also a very attractive place for the people of tourist. Every year thousand of tourist from all over the country and abroad come to visit Rangamati. Usually they visit the Kaptai lake which is the largest in South Asia, Sovalong fountain, Hanging bridge, Rajbanbihar, Rajbari , Tribal Cultural Institute, Tribal Market etc. Tourists also enjoy the sceneric beauties of Kaptai lake from different hill point by visiting Kaptai Rangamati road which is recently constructed by LGED, Rangamati. Rangamati is also famous for cashew nut, water melon, Bangla Banana, fresh fishes of Kaptai lake. The district is also known to all for having a hydraulic Power Plant at Kaptai and Terrestrial Earth Satellite at Betbunia, Kawkhli. There is also hill top point near town mostly known as Furman Peak from where one can enjoy the whole Town .
